HeadSir Font Converter - User Guide

Welcome to the HeadSir Font Converter! This tool seamlessly converts Assamese text between Unicode (modern standard) and Type 1 / Geetanjali (used in desktop publishing software like Adobe PageMaker).

HeadSir Converter is a premium tool. An account (email, password) is required to use this tool. After installation, it can be used for font conversion without an account, but in that case, it will only convert the first 30 words. After creating an account, you can use all the features of the tool for free for 24 hours. After 24 hours, a subscription/license will be required to continue using the tool. For subscription/license, contact email: support@headsir.in.

🔄 Conversion Directions

Switch the conversion direction at the top of the interface by clicking the Switch Direction button.

1. Unicode → Type 1 (Geetanjali)

Use this when you have modern Assamese text (from websites, WhatsApp) and want to use it in older publishing software like PageMaker.

  • Input: Standard Assamese Unicode text (e.g., অসমীয়া). You can also click Import File for .txt, .doc, or .docx.
  • Output: Text mapped to the Geetanjali layout.

2. Type 1 (Geetanjali) → Unicode

Use this when you have older PageMaker documents and want to extract the text to publish it online.

  • Input: Raw text copied from a Geetanjali-formatted document (looks like English gibberish).
  • Output: Modern Assamese Unicode text. Download using TXT or DOCX buttons.

TIP: Live Font Preview

If you have the Geetanjali fonts installed, the preview box will automatically display your converted Type 1 output using the actual Assamese fonts!

📋 Copying Text

When you click Copy with Fonts, it copies Rich Text (RTF & HTML) to your clipboard. Paste directly into PageMaker, and all fonts (Geetanjali, Numerals, Times New Roman) apply perfectly.

PageMaker Version Compatibility

If you are using PageMaker 6.5, you can safely use Copy with Fonts to paste formatted text directly. However, if you are using PageMaker 7, we strongly recommend using Export (Auto-Font) instead. Due to a known bug in PageMaker 7, pasting copied text may incorrectly convert the characters 'স্ব' and 'ম্ব' into 'স্ফ' and 'ম্ফ'.

💡 Workaround: When using Copy with Fonts, words containing 'স্ব' and 'ম্ব' are automatically colored red for easy detection, so you can manually edit them in PageMaker.

📑 Export (Auto-Font) Feature

Regular Assamese text and numerals use two different fonts. This tool exports a PageMaker Tagged Text (.txt) file with correct fonts assigned — no manual switching needed.

Step 1 — Choose your font variant

Select the variant that matches your installation:

  • Light v1 — Geetanjalilight & Geetanjalip
  • Light v2 — Geetanjalilight & Geetanjaliplight
  • UNI — GeetanjaliLightUNI & GeetanjaliLightpUNI
  • ABTT — ABTT Geetanjali & ABTT GeetanjaliP

Step 2 — Convert & Export

  1. Paste Unicode Assamese text in the Input box.
  2. Numeral segments will be highlighted in amber.
  3. Click Export (Auto-Font) to download geetanjali-converted.txt.

Step 3 — Place into PageMaker

  1. Go to File → Place… (Ctrl+D).
  2. Select geetanjali-converted.txt and click Open.
  3. Click on the page to place the text. Fonts are applied automatically.

Fixing errors for single ('ক্স') and double ('ক্ট') inverted commas

PageMaker has a hidden feature that forces "Smart Quotes", turning the single ('ক্স') and double ('ক্ট') inverted commas into English smart quotes. To fix this permanently:

  1. Go to File → Place... in PageMaker.
  2. Select any text or RTF file (like the geetanjali-converted.txt you just downloaded).
  3. Look at the bottom of the Place dialog box and UNCHECK "Convert Quotes".
  4. Click Open.

Now, whenever you paste using Copy with Fonts or place an exported file, your quotes and conjuncts will render perfectly!

NOTE

Amber-highlighted segments use Geetanjaliplight (or your selected variant) in the exported file. Non-highlighted text uses Geetanjalilight.

🔠 Handling Mixed English Words

The converter has smart features to handle English words or numbers mixed with Assamese text automatically in both directions.

Converting Unicode → Type 1

The converter automatically detects English words. When you click Export or Copy with Fonts, English words are safely embedded using Times New Roman.

Converting Type 1 → Unicode

The converter also automatically preserves English words! It intelligently analyzes the raw Type 1 text to distinguish between Assamese encoding and standard English words, preventing your English text from turning into Assamese characters.
